Flora's flawless Double-A debut: Giants' No. 3 prospect shows his stuff in latest spotless outing
Some pitchers need time to find their footing in professional baseball. Jackson Flora appears to be in a hurry.
Barely two months after he was selected fourth in the MLB Draft, the flamethrowing hurler made his Double-A debut in Game 2 of the Eastern League playoffs – and wasted little time in making more than just a favorable impression.
Flora’s short but eye-opening outing continued a pro introduction that has been nothing short of electric. The 21-year-old flashed a trio of nasty changeups to record his first three punchouts, including one that set down Zyhir Hope (DET No. 1/MLB No. 27).
After inducing weak contact to record the first two outs of the second, Flora dialed up his heater to 97 mph to close out his opening act for the Flying Squirrels. The UC Santa Barbara product maneuvered his way through on just 28 pitches (19 strikes), generating five whiffs on 15 swings.
