How Twins leadoff hitter Luke Keaschall’s ‘go, go, go’ mentality made him a lineup cornerstone
SAN FRANCISCO – Luke Keaschall, caked in a dirty uniform with a hole in the back of his pants, greeted family members and friends around the Twins dugout after Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
For people who know Keaschall best, this was a common sight.
Keaschall, playing in his first career games at Oracle Park, built his baseball career around San Francisco. He grew up 90 minutes away in Watsonville, Calif., on a ranch. He spent two years at the University of San Francisco, the only Division I school that offered him a spot out of high school, where he was the West Coast Conference co-freshman of the year.
As Keaschall emerges into a cornerstone player for the Twins, he’s been known in these parts for his self-described “go, go, go” playing style. He left his imprint all over Tuesday’s victory, hitting a tying RBI triple, scoring the go-ahead run and making two sliding catches in right field. He followed that by hitting a home run and a sacrifice fly in a 4-2 victory Wednesday.
